EK DIN ACHANAK (Dir : Mrinal Sen)

Ah! Finally got to watch the one flick i had been waiting endlessly for years..and how i loved it! A perfect women centric flick in all aspect featuring my most admirable actors together..Aparna Sen, Shabana Azmi, Roopa Ganguly and of course, a commendable supporting act by Uttara Baokar (well deserved National award 1989 for Best Supporting actress), supported competently by Shreeram Lagoo, Anil Chatterjee, Arjun Chakraborty..The film excellently captures the vagaries of life in a typical middle-class bengali household facing quietly and morosely a dilemma, after the mysterious disappearance of its patriarch! Shabana Azmi's character reminded me so much of Meghe dhaka Tara's Neeta ,while at times it might remind you of Shabana Azmi's yet another role in a much recent  flick 15 Park Avenue..Aparna Sen shines through the role of a student who's deep and poignant relationship with her professor is left unsolved while Roopa Ganguly enacts her part as the younger sibling efficiently

Mrinal Sen is well known for bringing out the pathos of the middle class household as we have witnessed in some of his major works like Akash kusum, Kharij, Ek din pratidin, and this one too categorizes as one of the must watch films of Indian cinema showcasing the 70's and 80's of the middle class efficiently!

P.S. : I wonder who did the dubbing for Aparna Sen in the film..the voice over seems so much familiar!
